Morocco will face Ghana in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) semifinal at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday, as the nation’s quest to lift the trophy on home soil continues.

Kick-off is at 9pm CAT.

As Morocco and Ghana prepare to clash in the semifinal of this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), both teams carry momentum and determination into a fixture that promises intensity, grit, and national pride.

Morocco have impressed throughout the tournament, finishing top of Group A on goal difference with seven points. They opened with a thrilling 2-2 draw against Zambia, followed by a 4-2 win over the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a narrow 1-0 victory against Senegal. In the quarterfinals, the Atlas Lionesses delivered a commanding performance against Mali, securing a 3-1 win. Ibtissam Jraïdi led the charge with two goals, while Kenza Chapelle added a late third. Though they conceded in stoppage time, their attacking dominance was undeniable.

Ghana’s path to the semifinal was more dramatic. After losing 2-0 to South Africa in their group opener and drawing 1-1 with Mali, the Black Queens surged to second place in Group C with a crucial 4-1 win over Tanzania. Their goal difference advantage, aided by South Africa’s 4-0 victory over Mali, saw them through. In the quarterfinals, Ghana edged Algeria 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes, booking their first semifinal appearance since 2006.

Ghana head coach Kim Lars Björkegren acknowledged the tight turnaround but remains focused: “I wish that we had one or two more days, but that’s life as a football player and a coach. To mentally recover and for them maybe more physical recovery and then be ready to do everything we can in the semifinal. Of course, it’s going to be a hard job for our medical team now to help the players to be as ready as possible.”

Players to Watch

Morocco – Ghizlane Chebbak: The Atlas Lionesses’ captain has been at the heart of Morocco’s success, leading the tournament scoring charts alongside Senegal’s Nguenar Ndiaye with four goals in four matches. Her late equaliser against Zambia and a sensational hat-trick against DR Congo highlight her clutch performances and attacking flair.

Ghana – Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah: The 29-year-old forward has been a consistent threat in Ghana’s attack, contributing one goal and one assist so far. Boye-Hlorkah’s pace, movement, and eye for goal make her a potential game-changer as Ghana seeks to upset the host nation.

Head-to-Head Record: Morocco wins: 3 | Ghana wins: 2 | Draws: 0

With a spot in the final on the line, this semifinal clash is set to deliver high stakes and unforgettable moments.
