Canada made history by capturing the Hopman Cup for the first time, as Bianca Andreescu and Felix Auger-Aliassime teamed up to outplay Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti and Flavio Cobolli in a high-stakes final in Bari.
The showdown came down to the doubles after Andreescu and Cobolli split the singles wins. The Canadian duo sealed the victory with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win in the doubles match.
Both teams were debuting in a Hopman Cup final, but Canada struck early. Andreescu dominated Bronzetti in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, showcasing the star power behind her name despite currently being ranked 185th in the world — well below Bronzetti’s ranking of 64. Andreescu’s 2019 US Open triumph and former world No. 4 status proved too much for the Italian newcomer.
The pressure shifted to Cobolli, who needed to beat Auger-Aliassime to keep Italy’s title hopes alive. The two rivals, close in the rankings (Cobolli 19, Auger-Aliassime 28), had split their previous 2024 meetings.
Cobolli edged a nail-biting first-set tiebreak 9-7, then took the second set 7-5 after a crucial break. But Auger-Aliassime fought back in the third-set tiebreaker, clinching it 10-8 and setting the stage for Canada’s doubles triumph.
