Bosnia moved into the semifinals of the men’s sitting volleyball tournament at the Paris Paralympics with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Kazakhstan, keeping their podium streak alive since debuting in 2000. The two-time Paralympic gold medalists dominated the first two sets before Kazakhstan rallied to push the match to a decider. Bosnia held firm to take the fifth set 15-8, becoming the first team to reach the semifinals. “We thought it would be easier,” admitted Stevan Crnobrnja, “but our determination carried us through.”
In the same group, Egypt claimed their first win with a straight-sets triumph over hosts France, despite a crowd of 3,800 cheering against them. Egypt now face Kazakhstan on Monday in a virtual quarterfinal, while Bosnia aim to keep their unbeaten run going against France. Meanwhile, defending champions Iran, led by star player Morteza Mehrzad, are set to face Brazil next in Pool B.
