The stage is set for the fifth annual DStv Schools Netball Challenge (DSNC) national finals, powered by Bestmed Medical Scheme.
Nearly 50 schools from across South Africa will compete at Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen in Boksburg, Johannesburg, on 25–26 July, all vying for the honour of being crowned the top netball school in the country.
About the Competition
Launched in 2021, the DSNC is a collaboration between MultiChoice and SA Schools Netball (SASN). It aims to provide equal opportunities for young athletes from both urban and rural areas to showcase their talent on a national stage.
The competition is divided into two streams:
- Botho
- Ubuntu
It has also evolved into a scouting ground for national coaches and selectors to discover the next generation of talent.
Botho Stream: Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool Chases Three-Peat
Defending Botho champions Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria (Affies) will return with hopes of achieving a historic three-peat.
Affies, winners in both 2023 and 2024, will look to continue their dominance. Team captain Kristi Koekemoer expressed excitement at the possibility:
“We have an amazing support system and the best coaches. That would be amazing… If we do it, we are going to enjoy every moment.”
However, 2022 champions C&N Sekondêre Meisieskool Oranje stand firmly in their path. Oranje’s captain Jessica Barnard is confident:
“This year is going to be a big comeback… It would be amazing for the school to be there again.”
Ubuntu Stream: Wide Open Field in 2025
In the Ubuntu stream, the competition is wide open with 2024 champions Khombindlela High School and two-time winners Hlabi Secondary School not participating.
This opens up opportunities for other contenders, including 2024 finalists Lambalati Secondary School, who are eyeing the top spot this year.
