FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed full support for England defender Jess Carter after she revealed being subjected to racist abuse during Euro 2025. Carter, who has started all four of England’s matches, announced on Sunday that she would step away from social media for the rest of the tournament. Following a tough performance in the quarterfinal against Sweden, where the Lionesses conceded two first-half goals, the 27-year-old was targeted online. Football Association CEO Mark Bullingham condemned the abuse and confirmed that UK police are working with social media platforms to identify those responsible. “We stand with Jess,” Infantino said in a statement. “No player should face discrimination. We will support any further action and assist in identifying the perpetrators.” Support also poured in from UEFA, Carter’s club Gotham FC, the National Women’s Soccer League, and the Lionesses. Teammate Lotte Wubben-Moy also shared her intention to step away from social media in solidarity.
