Brazil wrapped up the Volleyball Nations League Preliminary Phase with a 3-1 victory over Germany in Chiba, Japan, securing the top spot in the standings with an 11-1 record and 32 points. The South American squad now prepares to face China in the quarterfinals in Ningbo.
Rising star Arthur Bento Buczmiejuk, 21, led Brazil with a standout performance, scoring 20 points through 59% successful spikes, two kill blocks, and an ace. Teammates Alan Souza and Lukas Bergmann each contributed 13 points in the win.
“It’s always fun to play, but facing Germany, where I’ve lived with my family, added something special,” said Bergmann. “Now it’s all about staying focused for China.”
Germany, now 12th in the standings at 5-7, is out of the Finals race. Erik Rohrs led their offense with 17 points, followed by Filip John with 16 and Tobias Brand with 10.
